Abby Stern, Contributor for The Zoe Report, thinks chardonnay should be on everyone’s table as the dog days of summer come to a close and the crisp fall air moves our way. Stern interviewed director of winemaking at Robert Mondavi Winery, Kurtis Ogasawara, who explains, “Although [Chardonnay is] able to be grown in both warm and cool climates, it’s a wine that truly reflects where it’s grown.” While the wine may have been given a bad wrap for lacking flavor in mainstream wine drinking, Stern provides the argument that there are some fantastic wineries making lively and flavorful Chardonnays, including Far Mountain. For the tastiest bottles, Ogasawara recommends, “The best Chardonnays come from special sites where winemakers can show the perfect combination of fruit intensity, texture, weight, elegance, and freshness.” Far Mountain Myrna Chardonnay 2019 is no exception. Of the wine, Stern notes, “The first sip of this Chardonnay bursts with bright citrus flavor and minerality. The wine’s intensity of flavors is thanks to two vineyard sites in the pockets of the mountains of Sonoma Valley: Bald Mountain and Thornton Vineyard (hillside).” The structure and depth these grapes offer make it a perfect transition-of-the-seasons glass to enjoy in the coming months.
