Tommasi
Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 2016
Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG
Tommasi’s traditional approach to Amarone favors elegance and balance, with deep fruit complemented by spicy, earthy flavors. The grapes come from the family’s choicest plots in the Valpolicella Classica region. Through its commitment to quality and tradition, Tommasi has established itself as one of the principal ambassadors of Amarone in the world.
Vineyard
The best clusters are selected exclusively by hand from Tommasi’s top two vineyards in the five key valleys (also known as fingers) in the Valpolicella Classica area: La Groletta, a south-facing hillside vineyard close to Lake Garda, and la Conca d’Oro, a terraced vineyard which translates to “the golden shell.”
Winemaking
After harvest, the grapes are placed on small racks in a large grape-drying room known as a fruttaio, where they are dried by cool autumn and winter breezes until the following February. Over these months the grapes lose about 50% of their weight, concentrating the level of natural sugar. After a fermentation period lasting 20 days, the wine is aged for 3 years in large 35-hectoliter Slavonian oak casks, followed by one year in bottle.
Tasting Note
Deep ruby red color with garnet shades. Warm, ripe on the nose, intense and of great refinement. The taste is complex, smooth, full bodied, lots of cherry notes and plum.
Food Pairing
TOMMASI Amarone is a wine which one can proudly serve on special occasions, particularly with red meats, game and ripe cheeses. But it can also be sipped an ideal companion to enjoyable conversation.

Reviews
"Polished, rather relaxed tannins"
Wine Enthusiast - November 18, 2020 "Reveals whiffs of stewed prune, leather and tilled earth. The solid palate offers baked plum, candied raisin and a dollop of vanilla alongside polished, rather relaxed tannins before a bitter almond finish."
"A rich, layered Amarone"
James Suckling - December 8, 2020 "A rich, layered Amarone with lots of fruit. Bright, sliced dried citrus to the tripe and juicy fruit. It's full bodied and compact with a beautiful finish and transparency."
"A great option both on and away from the dinner table"
Vinous - February 25, 2021 "The 2016 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is quite reserved and understated, but in a way that keeps you at the edge of the glass. Roses, blackberries, savory herbs and a hint of spiced citrus make for an alluring bouquet. It’s velvety in texture, ushering in a creamy wave of ripe red and black fruits, laced with salty minerals, as dark inner florals amass toward the close. There’s a lot of power here that is currently restrained, as this finishes youthfully structured and tense, with a saturating layer of dried black cherries to tempt the imagination with what's to come with a few years of cellaring. Also of note is the 2016’s 15% abv, making this a great option both on and away from the dinner table."
"Steeped cherry, dried raspberry"
Wine Spectator - December 6, 2021 "A compact Amarone with an overtone of cured tobacco, defined by crisp tannins tightly meshed to flavors of steeped cherry, dried raspberry and minerally hints of smoke and loamy earth. Corvina, Corvinone, Oseleta and Rondinella."- A.N
"Angular and Strong"
Wine Advocate - January 19, 2022 "The Tommasi 2016 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico reveals a dark and savory side that we did not see in the hotter and sweeter 2017 vintage. This wine is angular and strong with dried fruit, black cherry, leather, toasted spice and tarry smoke. The house blend is 50% Corvina, 30% Corvinone, 15% Rondinella and 5% Oseleta, and the wine ages in Slavonian oak casks for three years. " -M.L
